The company delivers integrated architectural and interior design, construction supervision and research solutions in a wide spectrum of built environment areas. Research
Dr Chrysikou and SynThesis have been involved in several international schemes in the UK, Europe, Greece, Middle East and New Zealand. Researched mental health, ageing, accessibility, autism, social inclusion, healthcare and wellness buildings and medical tourism planning in several contexts (UK, France, Belgium, Greece, Netherlands, Israel, Qatar, Japan, New Zealand). Funded by the European Commission (Former Marie Curie H2020 Fellow), the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation (Butterfield Award), the Royal Society of New Zealand (Marsden) and by Onassis Foundation.
SynThesis received international awards, such as the “Best Research Project for 2017” at the International Academy for Design & Health Awards 2017 in Vienna, the “Best International Design” at the Building Better Healthcare Awards in London 2014 & the Highly Commended Award το 2012, of the International Academy for Design and Health, Kuala Lumpur, but also in Australia in 2014 & Singapore in 2009.
The Team
Dr Evangelia Chrysikou is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) and the Program Director for the MSc Healthcare Facilities at the Bartlett Real Estate Institute, UCL, London. Medical architect holding a rare PhD on mental health (UCL) and a former Marie Curie H2020 Fellow. She is also actively involved in policymaking. Coordinator of the D4 Action Group, European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA), European Commission (EC) and Vice-President of the Urban Health Section, EUPHA. Consulted for the EC, the Hellenic Ministry of Health and the Centre of European Constitutional Law on legislation for psychiatric facilities. Researched mental health, ageing, accessibility, autism, social inclusion, healthcare and wellness buildings and medical tourism planning in several contexts. She has authored national guidelines for psychiatric facilities for Greece on behalf of the EU, two books (‘Architecture for Psychiatric Environments and Therapeutic Spaces’, ‘The Social Invisibility of Mental Health Facilities’). Evangelia is also journal editor, reviewer, active member of professional and scientific associations and a TED-MED speaker.
Eleftheria Savvopoulou is an architect, holding an MSc on Architectural Project Management, University of Edinburgh. She is involved in the UCL European Commitment on Active and Healthy Ageing (AHA) under the title ‘Inclusive Urban and Rural Communities’.
